Hang out with Subplot

Wednesday nights are always good for a few beers with friends. And the guys up at Sydney’s most relaxed bar were nice enough to let Toby and I take over the music for a couple of Wednesday evenings. Come down for the chill side of Dubstep and Future Beats. No cover charge and no door bitches. This one is all about hanging out with some good tunes.

Subplot is good for Sydney’s environment

Come and check out some sustainable music at the next Subplot. Introducing Prize and Moriarty, our greenest additions to the Subplot family. These guys have been championing Dubstep and Future Beats for some time now. So they definitely won’t be recycling their music.

The only theme for this party is good music. But if you do decide to dress up as a tree, you could maybe get a free drink while you keep any of the light seeping in from Oxford Street. We don’t want any street light tanning our pasty DJs.

Starting out the night is Vanilla Gorilla and his lady-melting beats. At the other end is party man Gilsun, with his crazy late night mash-ups. You’ll also catch Portrait and blablake playing records.

This where we should probably say something about making love to trees.

And this is the third month of Subplot. Which is good enough reason to make this a memorable one. $10 on the door, this 17th of July. Brighton Up Bar.

Check out the smooth and irresistable hip hop beats of Subplot's very own Vanilla Gorilla.

Known for his luck with ladies, Sydney's whitest primate is opening Subplot this Friday June 19th.

New Flyer!

In celebration for our guest artist, James Jirat. Here is some pretty new artwork. Hope to see you all there.

James Jirat on the lineup

We’re growing the line up with local illustrator, paintslinger and future superhero James Jirat. James tells us he has always dreamt of joining the X-men, or becoming Ultraman, or something awesome like that. His ultimate goal: to make the world look better. See James Jirat’s eye candy save Brighton Up Bar’s humble walls, this Subplot, June 19th.

Subplot gets wonky as F*%K

Clear Friday, June 19th, for the next Subplot. Introducing Headroom promoters/producers/djs, Jonny Faith and Monk Fly. These guys are sure to bring us fat, glitched-out beats and big, wonky basslines. Just the way we like it.

Jonny Faith, originally from Edinburgh, and now based in Sydney, loves to play head-melding beats. Not that genre really matters, but to give you an idea of what Jonny Faith has in store, his style falls somewhere between percussive Hip-Hop and wobbly, atmospheric, Dubstep. If you’ve listened to 2SER 107.3fm on a Friday night, you’ve probably heard these guys play. If you haven’t, make sure you tune in on Friday nights from 10.30pm to 12am.

Check out Jonny Faith’s Beat Research.

Monk Fly is Headroom’s other half. The Sydney based DJ/producer is a self-confessed lover of “abstract, picture-based beats”. He takes a bit of a harder edge in Dubstep than Jonny Faith, and that’s what makes their sounds work so well together, they each take over from where the other left off, and then completely wonk it the other way. You may have also heard of Monk Fly’s boutique Sydney based record label The Frequency Lab, dedicated to “local left-field beats”. Well worth checking out.

Hear Monk Fly’s FBI midday mixup

We are really excited to have the guys from Headroom wonk up the place this Friday 19th of June. And just like last time, Subplot is playing upstairs at the Brighton Hotel.

Hi there. Just wanted to put out a big thank you for all who made it last Friday. It was a killer night with much more of a turn out than we could have hoped for. So thanks for coming along and supporting.

We will be making this a monthly night, so keep the 19th June free. More details to come.

I'm just listening to Portrait mix a few tunes, and I can't help but think how tomorrow night is going to be insane. After months of talking about it, our first party is about to explode.

I'll be picking up the pieces with you, very soon.

First night of many - 22nd May 09

Do you remember those parties you walked into that just felt like you knew everyone? Full of unique beats and big basslines, Subplot is lining up to be the night we always wanted, but could never find.

The first Subplot opens with the never cheesy but always sleazy Piero. Before heading into Cleptoclectics' jazz and infused hip hop beats. Then the live exploration begins with WesternSynthetic’s hip hop to dustep.

Portrait and blablake will continue their work, with more deep and undulating dubstep bass.

Tickets? Cover charge? Yep, $10 on the door, but it will only help us make the next night bigger and better.

Bring friends and spread the word. This is a night to enjoy, and best full of mischief and mayhem.
